Welcome to Withnell Health Centre

With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

Every Autumn we offer the annual flu vaccination to people at increased risk of flu.  This includes:

  1. Everyone aged 65 and over (including those who turn 65 before 31st March 2021)
  2. People under 65 who have a condition that we monitor – this list includes Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Conditions, Obesity, Learning Disability, Pregnancy, Being a Carer

We order the vaccine in January and they are usually delivered towards the end of September.

Last year we vaccinated 1320 people, which is 75% of the total who are eligible for the vaccine.

This year will be exactly the same for these groups.  Watch out for posters and text messages in September inviting you, if you are eligible.  Please make sure the surgery has your  up to date mobile number – you can email this to .   This year the flu clinics will of course be somewhat different as in order to keep everyone safe they will need to be run following the national social distancing guidance so minimum numbers in the building and all clinicians will need full PPE.  So we would ask that you please be patient and bear with us on the day of the clinic.

The change this is year is that the government also wish to vaccinate everyone between the age of 50 and 64 as well.  At present we have no further details, other than this will happen AFTER our NORMAL flu campaign – so possibly December. However, if you are aged 50-64 in an at risk group, you should not delay having your flu vaccine.

If you are eligible in this category we will contact you by text message and keep you updated as soon as we have further information.  You could also speak to our partners at Withnell Pharmacy if you fall into this category and wish to have the vaccination privately this year.

Thank you

Our surgery is open the first weekend of every month and some evenings between 6.30pm and 8pm for telephone calls.  To book an appointment please ring the surgery number during opening hours or  01257 514300 outside of opening hours to check availability.

Coronavirus Update 03/08/2020

Withnell Health Centre is open as usual as we continue to provide care to all our patients but we still are asking you not to come to surgery unless asked to do so by a GP or staff member. We will be offering telephone appointments first to everyone, as we do our best to keep everyone safe.

If the GP or nurse decides they wish to see you face to face they will ask you attend surgery.  When you arrive please wait in your car in the car park, ring reception to let them know you have arrived and the clinician will come out and get you when they are ready.  Please wear a face covering.

We are now undertaking smears, B12 injections and contraceptive injections when these are due so please contact reception who can arrange these.

Blood Clinics are running on Tuesday and Thursday.  We are limiting the numbers to 2 in the waiting room so please attend your appointment at your allocated time, do not arrive early as you won’t be allowed to enter.  This is to keep everyone safe.  Please wear a face covering and upon entering the building, use the hand sanitiser provided and wait at the table by the entrance until a staff member says it ok to go to the waiting room.   At that point enter the toilets and wash your hands before proceeding to the waiting room.

Ante-natal Clinics are running on Wednesday.  Please follow the procedure above as for blood clinic.

To order repeat prescriptions please email us (, use our website or if registered use patient access.  You can also post via royal mail or pop your request in the post box at the surgery.

If you have ordered a repeat prescription it will automatically be sent to Withnell Pharmacy for collection unless you give us an alternative pharmacy.

If you have been asked to drop off a sample please ensure it is labelled correctly and leave it on the table just inside the entrance.

If you need an appointment with a doctor or nurse please telephone 01254 282630 as usual and we can arrange a telephone appointment for you.

We now have appointments available with our Nurse,  Adrienne,  who is a fully qualified nurse prescriber so when you ring for an appointment she may be able to suit your health needs and you may be offered an appointment with her instead of the GP.  Her appointments are book on the day and are currently via telephone.
